If you came to Cloudcroft for turquoise — or a crystal, a kachina, a piece of Southwest pottery — this is the Burro Street Exchange's themed room that was built for that exact shopping list.

Inside 505 Burro · Southwest specialty · inventory-heavy · roughly 20 years in residence
Three product lines · rotating

What's in the shop

A themed Southwest retail room rather than a general gift shop. Jewelry and sterling silver are the headline; stones, crystals, and geodes are the distinguishing layer; Southwestern pottery and home décor round out the plate. Inventory rotates — confirm specific items by phone.

What I'd buy

Your first visit
"A turquoise ring or cuff. The shop's headline category — and the one where the depth here exceeds what a general Cloudcroft gift shop can stock."

Turquoise · ring or cuff

The distinguishing pick
"A mid-sized geode or a crystal specimen. This is the layer you won't find at the neighboring jewelry-only rooms on Burro — the stones-and-crystals program is Trading Post's fingerprint."

Geode or crystal specimen

A gift that travels
"A small piece of Southwestern pottery, or a kachina. Regionally specific, gift-quality, and exactly the kind of object that loses its meaning if ordered online."

Hours

Different public sources (Chamber, directories, the shop's own site) don't align on a clean weekly schedule. Expect steady daytime hours during summer and shoulder-season patterns the rest of the year — but call before a same-day trip rather than relying on a posted timetable.

Why no 7-day table here

We won't publish hours we can't stand behind. Cross-checking the official site, Chamber page, and third-party directories doesn't produce a consistent schedule, and the Exchange as a whole runs seasonal rhythms.

The honest move: call (575) 682-8280 before you come, or walk the Exchange on arrival — the trading post sits in Suite 103 inside the 505 Burro complex.

Good for · skip if

What this shop actually does well, and when to aim somewhere else on the Burro Avenue strip instead.

Good for

  • Turquoise and sterling-silver shoppers who want depth, not a single case
  • Gemstone, crystal, and geode browsers
  • Gift-seekers looking for Southwestern pottery or a kachina
  • Visitors already inside the Burro Street Exchange
  • Rainy-day indoor browsing on the avenue

Practical notes

Hours, seasons & calling ahead

Cross-checking public sources (official site, Chamber, third-party directories) doesn't produce a consistent weekly schedule. The Exchange itself runs seasonal rhythms — summer weekends busiest, shoulder-season quieter.

Call (575) 682-8280 or walk the Exchange on arrival to confirm the shop is open before committing to a specific item. Suite 103 is inside the 505 Burro complex.

The Burro Street Exchange

The Burro Street Exchange at 505 Burro Ave is the indoor retail mall on the middle stretch of Burro Avenue. Trading Post shares roof space with Cloudcroft Sandwich Shop, Noisy Water Winery, Old Barrel Tea Company, and several other durable tenants. It's the best indoor-browse retail cluster in town on weather days.

Parking is on-street along Burro Avenue in front of the Exchange building. A single visit can realistically cover three or four Exchange shops without moving the car.

Authenticity, provenance & naming

Trading Post publishes both "Burro Street Trading Post" and "Burro Street Trading Co." across its own site, Chamber listing, and third-party directories. Same business, two public-facing names — not a sign of a relocation or rebrand.

On the Native American jewelry side, the shop's own statements are the strongest available documentation. If authenticity, artist origin, or stone provenance matters for a specific purchase, ask at the counter; we don't have independently verified documentation beyond what the shop itself states.

Payment, shipping & accessibility

Card and cash are standard. Online-order and shipping policies aren't cleanly crawlable from current sources — ask on the call if you're considering shipping a piece.

Exchange access is through the 505 Burro entry. Specific accessibility details for Suite 103 aren't documented; confirm before relying on it. Pets are generally not welcome inside most Exchange tenants.

Editor's take

"Trading Post is the Southwest room Cloudcroft's avenue actually needs — not a diluted gift-shop echo of the category but a focused, inventory-heavy stop built for turquoise, silver, stones, and pottery. If those are on your list, this is the shop to start at before diving into the jewelry-only rooms further up the block."
