Mountain Disc Golf at Its Best

Cloudcroft has quietly become one of New Mexico's top disc golf destinations. The village's flagship Cloudcroft Community DGC is an 18-hole course rated 4.6 out of 5 stars on UDisc, ranking among the top 10 courses in the state. Designed by Ray Haller and David Wood in 2019, the course weaves through dense ponderosa pine forest at roughly 9,000 feet elevation.

With dramatic elevation changes on nearly every hole, rocky terrain, and wind that adds an extra layer of challenge, this is a course that rewards shot-shaping and control. Best of all, it's completely free to play, year-round. A beginner-friendly 9-hole putter course at Zenith Park rounds out the local offerings.

Tips for Disc Golf in Cloudcroft

Six things to know before you hit the course at 9,000 feet.

🌬️

Wind & Weather

At 9,000 feet, wind is a constant factor. Bring understable and overstable discs. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer, so start your round early. Temperatures can be 20°F cooler than Alamogordo.

🥾

Wear Trail Shoes

The Community DGC has steep, rocky terrain with significant elevation changes. Hiking-style shoes with good traction are essential. The course is not cart-friendly due to the rugged terrain.

💧

Hydrate & Prepare

At this altitude, dehydration comes quickly. Bring plenty of water and snacks for the 2-hour round. There are no facilities on the main course, so plan ahead.

🥏

Bring Extra Discs

Dense forest and rocky terrain mean lost discs are common. Bright-colored discs are easier to find. Write your name and number on every disc you throw.

📸

Enjoy the Views

Several holes offer panoramic views down the canyon to the Tularosa Basin and White Sands. Don't rush your round. The scenery is part of the experience.
